Apostille first or translation first?
For a Turkish document going to Switzerland, the order depends on cantonal practice — and getting it wrong means paying for the translation twice. One written question settles it before anything is ordered.

Why the order matters at all
An apostille is a stamp on the document. If the translation is produced before it is applied, the translated document does not include it — and an office that wants the apostille rendered in its own language will send the file back. If instead the office requires its own listed translator to work from the apostilled original, translating in Türkiye first is money spent twice.
Two possible sequences
- Apostille in Türkiye, then translation in Switzerland by a translator the canton accepts. Common where the canton keeps a list.
- Apostille in Türkiye, then certified translation in Türkiye, shipped together. Possible where the canton accepts foreign certified translations.

What never works
Translating before the apostille. In either sequence the apostille belongs on the original and forms part of what is read. A translation produced before it exists is incomplete by construction.
The question that settles it

Which Turkish authority

The reverse direction is fixed
A Swiss document going to Türkiye always follows one order: cantonal apostille first, translation here second. No cantonal variation applies, because the receiving authority is Turkish.
Do not break the set
Once the apostille is attached, the document and the apostille form one unit. Do not separate, staple through or punch holes for filing — a detached apostille can cause rejection at either end.
What a written answer is worth
An email reply from the office costs a few days and settles the two variables that govern your entire spend: sequence and translator. Without it you are choosing between two chains, one of which will have to be redone. Note the date and the sender: staff turnover and internal practice changes are ordinary, and a dated reply is what lets you point to what you were told when you began.
