Financial capacity documents
A bank letter, statements, and sometimes property or income documents. The rule that catches people out is the same one as for grades: figures are reproduced exactly as printed, in the original currency, and are never converted by the translator.

Accepted under conditions
Financial documents are asked for in student files, in economic immigration files and in visitor files, and what they are being asked to show is narrower than applicants assume. The question is not whether you are wealthy. It is whether identified funds, of a stated size, are available to an identified person for a stated purpose.
What the file is actually testing
Three things: that the money exists, that it belongs to someone with a documented connection to you, and that it has not appeared in the account the week before the application. A document that shows a balance and nothing else answers the first only. That is why a letter is usually asked for rather than a screenshot, and why account history frequently accompanies it.
We do not publish the required sums anywhere on this site. They are set by the authority, revised periodically, and vary with the region, the family size and the length of stay. Take them from the authority's own current publication on the day you apply.
The bank letter
Ask the bank for a letter, on its own letterhead, stamped and signed, stating the account holder's full name as it appears in their identity document, the account number, the date the account was opened, the currency, the balance on the date of the letter, and the branch's contact details. The date the account was opened matters more than people expect, because it addresses the third question above.
Turkish banks issue such letters routinely, but the branch will produce a standard form unless you ask for the elements you need. Give them the list.
Statements are not a substitute, and not a luxury
A letter states a position; statements show a history. Where the receiving body asks for a period of account history, produce it — and produce it in full, without removing pages you consider irrelevant. A statement with pages missing raises exactly the question the statement was supposed to close.
Figures are transferred, not converted
This is the same rule as for grades, and it is broken in the same way and for the same well-meaning reason. A translator who converts a balance into Canadian dollars is applying an exchange rate on the day they happened to work, producing a figure that appears on no source document and that will be wrong by the time the file is read. The officer compares the translation with the original, sees a number that is not there, and stops trusting the rest. Amounts stay in the currency printed on the document. The grades page sets out the principle.
Property, income and third-party support
Where the funds are not simply in an account, expect to document the source. Title deed records come from the land registry directorate, income and tax records from the tax office, and company documents from the trade registry. Where a parent or another person is funding you, the file usually needs their financial documents, a document establishing the relationship — the population registry extract does this in the Turkish system, as the civil status page explains — and a declaration of support. Where that declaration is drawn up before a notary, the exact amount is calculated by the notary office when the document is presented to it, and it appears as a third-party item on your quotation.
These documents age fastest of all
A bank letter is a statement about a single day, and receiving bodies expect a recent one. Obtaining financial documents at the start of a file is the clearest example of paying twice: they expire, they are replaced, and the translation is replaced with them. Schedule them immediately before submission — the timing page puts them at the end of the sequence for exactly this reason, alongside the criminal record certificate.
Translation and the applicable rule
Bank letters carry stamps, signature blocks and branch codes, and all of them belong in the translation like any other mark. Which standard applies depends on who reads the file: the provincial rule for a Québec application, described on the Québec translation rule page, or the federal declaration route for a federal one. Student files often pass through both.
Handling and confidentiality
Financial documents are the most sensitive papers in a file, and they are handled accordingly: restricted internal access, no upload to free online translation services, and disposal on the schedule set out on the document handling page. It is a working rule rather than a slogan, and it is one of the reasons a document set is not passed through consumer tools.
What we obtain
Under a power of attorney we obtain title deed records, tax records and trade registry documents, arrange notarial declarations where a supporter is in Türkiye, take documents through the apostille where a receiving body requires one, and courier the wet-signed set with a complete colour scan. Bank letters are normally requested by the account holder personally; we tell you what the letter must contain so that the branch issues it correctly the first time.
Frequently asked questions
It answers none of the three questions the file is asking and carries no stamp or signature. Ask the branch for a letter instead; it costs a visit and it is the document the instructions actually describe.
It invites the question of where it came from, which is answerable but has to be answered. Document the source — a property sale, a relative's transfer, a business income — rather than leaving the officer to infer it from a date.
Issue it in the currency the account is held in and let the receiving body apply its own rate. A converted letter is a letter about an exchange rate on a particular day, and it will not be that day when the file is read.
It depends on the reader, as everywhere else. Land registry records are administrative documents, so where an apostille is required it comes from the governorship in the province of issue. Get the requirement in writing before ordering one.
